Start Birth Years Birthstars Constellations

You are the city slicker who feels more at home with fuzzy little critters.
He made you think of good things, like gorp and Smokey the Bear. He made you want to pick up litter along the Appalachian Trail, or maybe just sit by a stream and say "Hey, a raccoon -- far out!" To children growing up in the seventies, he looked and sounded like the Have a Nice Day button come to life, but to the millions of adults who bought records like Rocky Mountain High and Take Me Home, Country Roads, he was more than just a great songwriter and unlikely fashion icon. With his bowl cut, granny glasses and down vest, John Denver was the symbol of an extremely attractive lifestyle -- a sincere, sensitive, and outdoorsy lifestyle that pointed many children of the sixties toward their futures as taxpaying, Patagonia-wearing Volvo owners and card-carrying members of the Sierra Club. There never was and there never will be a star quite like John Denver, whose aesthetic and musical uniqueness place him squarely in the middle of the constellation Sui Generis, among the pop universe's other unrepeatable greats. Appreciate the wonders of nature and embrace the embarrassingly sincere goofball within you, children of John Denver, for that is the path you will hike to happiness.
