Teen Idols were cropping up alongside aging ex-Beatles and desiccated Beach Boys. Cheap Trick was back, seemingly from the dead, and Chicago, the last living remnant of the constellation Lite & White was playing cheek-by-jowl with a group attempting to resurrect the ghost of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the constellation Mustache Rock. Yes, the end of times was approaching, popstrologically speaking, and presiding over it all was a young man who looked and acted for all the world like the lost love child of Elvis Presley and Freddie Mercury.
